Coloured Wedding Dresses – is it really all white?

Colour is in! One of the hottest trends in bridal gowns right now is to include some colour. Have you been agonising over the decision to buy a wedding dress that isn’t the traditional white/ivory? Like the Elie Saab collection below, many wedding dress designers have started to introduce dresses  in colours that stray from the traditional. But how do you decide if that’s the right choice for you?

The most important decision you need to make is whether how the dress looks is more important to you as an individual, to the partner you are marrying or to the friends and family that will be joining you on your big day. If it’s primarily important to you then you can be as individual as you like and embrace a colourful dress without worry. However, wondering whether your fiancé would like to see you in a colourful gown or guessing if your guests will approve could prove to be stressful. Here are a few things to consider before making the choice:

Personally, I think coloured wedding dresses can be flattering and fun but if you’re not confident enough to go the whole way, why not consider some colourful detailing instead?  Scottish brides frequently flourish their gowns with a splash of tartan and colourful sashes are regularly added to wedding gowns to tie them in with the bridal party’s attire.

In my opinion, Brides spend too much time thinking about other people’s views, opinions and preferences. Whilst some consideration is of course important, ultimately, if you want a coloured wedding dress, it’s your day so wear one!
