Colourful Real Life Vintage Wedding with Babies, Birds and Moustaches

Colourful Real Life Vintage Wedding with Babies, Birds and Moustaches

Posted On September 2, 2014 by Caroline

When Kelly asked me to provide Bridesmaid Brooch Corsages in 7 different colours, I knew it was going to be one of those rare, wonderful, individual weddings that only come by once in a while.  I wasn’t disappointed!

Kelly found out whilst planning her wedding that she was going to be 7 months pregnant on her wedding day. Rather than shying away or hiding this, Kelly and her fiancé embraced the pregnancy and chose to reveal to their guests the sex of the baby with the colour on the inside of their wedding cake. Their day was full of family, friends and fun with moustache extras, 1950s vintage styling and total individualism. I think you’ll all agree, this couple did it their way… (cue Frank Sinatra).

My favourite details (aside from what I provided!) is that gorgeous cake and of course the swallow themed Bridesmaid hair accessories. But the thing I find most endearing about this wedding, is the total sense of the importance of family. It seems to me that this couple got all the priorities on their Big Day in the right order.

I’m now going to leave Kelly to tell you about her big day as she is after all, the expert!

Kelly’s favourite details:

The fact we combined 50's, vintage and moustaches! It summed us up perfectly as a couple. Also, the bridesmaids dresses and Groomsmen suits because we were unsure about picking things that didn’t match but it worked so well!

Our florist did an amazing job adding in vintage brooches to our main table display so it would tie in with the corsages and bouquet from The Vintage Swallow.

Most stressful element:

Was most certainly the dress! Once I had taken on board I was going to be a pregnant bride I did a ton of researching into maternity dresses and thought this is going to be easy..boy was I wrong! I booked an appointment at the closest shop I could find that stocked maternity dresses. Given how much I was going to grow I had to book the appointment 3 months before the wedding. The day before my appointment the store called and cancelled as they had decided to stop stocking maternity dresses as the demand was so low. My option was to either buy online (which i really didnt want to do) or contact local dress makers and hope for the best. I decided to take a huge gamble and start the hunt for a dress maker. I eventually found an amazing woman who agreed to make me a dress in just 8 weeks! Again, because I was unsure of how pregnant I would look I couldn’t have a dress fitting till 4 days before my wedding. This was to make sure the bump didn’t shorten the dress etc. I think everyone thought I was crazy. So, the first time I ever saw my wedding dress complete was 4 days before!

It was crazy but amazing, and better than I could of imagined. I really wanted to still look like myself and not frumpy and enhance my bump and i think the dress maker captured all those points beautifully.

Best moment of the day:

Was revealing the sex of our future baby with our wedding cake! It was such a buzz and all of our friends and family were so excited. I've never heard so much screaming during a cutting of the cake before!

Top tips for other Brides to Be:

My tips to other brides would be to take everything in your stride. If something doesn’t go to plan or isn’t perfect no one except you will ever know. Research and research some more! I never thought I would be sourcing a lot of small wedding details from my own place of work. It’s funny when you’re open minded and relax where you can take inspiration from.

Lastly have fun don’t be afraid to make your wedding less formal and more fun. I know our guests really enjoyed our moustache extras, kinder egg favours and random mix of music! We couldn’t of asked for a better response. Our night ended with the groom, groomsman and our son Cash all playing air guitar to guns and roses. To me seeing everyone have so much fun made my day ever better.

I just want to say GOOD LUCK to Kelly and her family with the new arrival, I wish you the very best of love, luck and happiness in the years to come x
